Abstract

Academic procrastination is common among young adults. Academic psychological capital - a resource comprising hope, self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism, in the context of academics, can buffer against procrastination. While personal, social, and environmental factors influence this relationship, contextual factors like perceived parenting style and learning environment remain underexplored.

This systematic review analyzes 17 peer-reviewed studies using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines, with further quality assessment using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies.

Results show that permissive and positive parenting styles significantly impact academic procrastination. A favorable learning environment, including faculty support and academic discipline, also influences procrastination levels. Mediating factors include self-efficacy, self-esteem, personality, and perfectionism.

The review highlights theoretical and practical implications for educators, parents, and policymakers. Its novelty lies in integrating diverse psychological and contextual factors into a unified framework to better understand and address academic procrastination among young adults.
